The CME Institute of Physicians Postgraduate Press, Inc., publisher of The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and The Primary Care Companion for CNS Disorders, provides a CME program that enables physicians to obtain AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM by participating in peer-reviewed, evidence-based, and clinically relevant activities and completing a brief posttest and evaluation online.

The CME Institute of Physicians Postgraduate Press, Inc., is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

MyCME tracks credits earned for convenient record-keeping and permits easy printing of CME certificates.

FAQ

Q: What hardware/software do I need to view the CME activities?

A: The CME Institute requires a minimum Web browser of Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 4.0 or higher, or any other Web browser compatible with these browsers. Certain educational activities may require additional software to view multimedia, presentation, or printable versions of their content. These activities will be marked as such and will provide links to the required software. That software may be Flash, Adobe Reader.

Q: Is the CME Institute an accredited provider of continuing medical education?

A: Yes. The CME Institute of Physicians Postgraduate Press, Inc., is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Q: What is MyCME?

A: MyCME is an online record of your participation in our CME activities. MyCME keeps a list of your completed activities, saves the ones you started and want to return to, maintains a record of the CME credits you earn online, and allows you to immediately print your CME certificate or a transcript of credits earned.

Q: How do I create a MyCME account?

A: Your MyCME account is automatically created when you register or subscribe to The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry online at Psychiatrist.com.

Q: How often is MyCME updated?

A: Your MyCME account is updated continuously as you access new activities. You may print your CME transcript at any time for your personal records and professional certification purposes.

Q: If I fax or mail the posttest and evaluation forms instead of completing them online, will my MyCME account be updated?

A: No. MyCME is an automated online recordkeeping system of your online participation in CME activities. Although you can submit paper copies via fax or mail and be awarded credit, your MyCME account will only reflect your online participation and credit awarded for activities.

Q: Why must I register to participate in CME activities and be awarded credit?

A: You must register so the CME Institute can maintain a record of your participation as required by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. Click here to register.

Q: Does it cost anything to register?

A: No, registration is free.

Q: To register as a member, I am asked to provide the last four digits of my social security number. I don’t have one. What should I enter?

A: Enter four digits that you can easily remember. Avoid common combinations such as 1234 or 0000, which may be rejected.

Q: To earn credit, I have to provide personal information. How do you protect my privacy?

A: Our Privacy Policy describes what information we may collect about you, how we use your information, and how we protect it. To view our Privacy Policy, click here. You can also access it from the CME Institute home page by selecting Privacy Policy in the lower left corner of the screen.

Q: My institution subscribes to The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, but I can’t access the online posttest from that institutional subscription. What should I do?

A: To receive credit for the posttest and evaluation, you must create your own account so that credit can be awarded to you. To set up your own account for free, go to Psychiatrist.com and register. You may not be able to create a personal account when you use a computer tied to your institution’s network.

Q: How much does each CME activity cost?

A: Most CME activities published by the CME Institute are free. Some activities in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry​ that have no commercial support have a $5.00 processing fee. 

Q: Can I exit and return to an online activity later?

A: Yes. Even though you did not take the posttest, MyCME adds each activity you access to your activity list at MyCME. To return to the activity, go to MyCME and select the activity by name. This link will return you to the beginning of the activity and you can navigate to the place where you stopped.

Q: Can I exit the posttest or evaluation before completion and return to complete them later?

A: Yes, but any answers you have entered will not be saved. To return to the posttest, go to MyCME and select "Take Test" for that activity. This link will return you to the beginning of the posttest and the evaluation will follow. If you have already passed the test but have not completed the evaluation, select "Take Evaluation" for that activity.

Q: What is a passing score on the posttest?

A: If there is only 1 posttest question, 100% correct is required to pass. If there are 3 questions, 66% correct is required (allows 1 incorrect answer). For 4 or more posttest questions, 70% correct is a passing score.

Q: If I fail the posttest, can I take it again?

A: Yes. You will have an option to review incorrect answers.

Q: How long does it take to get the CME certificate?

A: When you have successfully completed the posttest and filled out the evaluation, you will be able to get your certificate immediately. Select the type of certificate (physician or nonphysician), and then select "Get Certificate." The certificate will be provided immediately for you to print for your records. You are not required to print your certificate. MyCME is tracking your progress, and the next time you go to MyCME, you will have an option to get your certificate.

Q: I am not a physician. Can I still receive AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM?

A: No, but upon successful completion of the posttest and evaluation, you will be awarded a participation certificate that states the number of hours you participated in the activity.

Q: How many credits can I earn for each CME activity?

A: The credit designation for each activity varies and is described in the CME Background Information for each activity. You should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of your participation in the activity.

Q: I was promised the opportunity to earn more credit for an activity than my certificate shows I actually earned. What is wrong?

A: Most likely you reported that the time you spent in the activity was less than the available amount of credit. There is a correlation between time spent and credit hours earned. You should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of your participation in the activity.

Q: Why is the evaluation at the end of posttest so long?

A: The CME Institute is always striving to improve the quality of its CME activities. Your answers to the basic evaluation questions help guide the planning of future educational activities. You must respond to the basic evaluation in order to receive your CME certificate.

Q: I just received an e-mail about making a change in my practice. Why did I get this e-mail?

A: About 6 to 8 weeks ago, you participated in a CME activity sponsored by the CME Institute and submitted an evaluation stating that you intend to make specific changes in your practice. The e-mail lists the changes you said that you would try to make in your practice as a result of your participation. The e-mail is a follow-up to find out if you have been able to implement the changes you intended, and if not, why not.

Q: I posted a question in a Forum several weeks ago and no one has posted a response. Why not?

A: The CME Institute makes every effort to ensure that the scholarly exchange of ideas occurs in a timely manner. 

Q: How long will this activity be available for CME credit?

A: CME activities are available for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM for up to 3 years from their publication date. 

Q: How do I scroll inside windows on my iPhone or iPad?

A: Sometimes there are windows within a window on our pages where users are intended to scroll in order to see everything in the subwindow. Swiping with a single finger scrolls the entire page, but swiping with two fingers scrolls the content in the subwindow.
